Our client, a well-established compliance consultancy with a strong presence in the built environment, is seeking a Technical Operations Director based in Manchester.
The ideal candidate will have 10+ years’ experience in Asbestos and Occupational Hygiene, relevant BOHS/RSPH qualifications, and a Certificate of Competence in Asbestos (CoC). This senior role requires technical expertise, operational leadership, and strategic vision to lead a multidisciplinary team and uphold Health & Safety compliance. Strong people management skills and a focus on staff development are essential. What your core responsibilities would be:
· Lead and manage a large technical team of over 40 staff, including multiple direct and project managers.
· Take ownership of all technical and operational activities within the environmental health sector.
· Mentor and support management to build motivated, high-performing teams aligned with business goals.
· Drive operational efficiency and commercial outcomes with integrity and accountability.
· Promote continuous learning, training, and career development to retain key talent.
· Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and quality management systems.
· Represent the organisation at relevant professional associations and industry forums.
· Act as the subject matter expert for technical challenges, client engagement strategies, and complex projects.
To be considered for this role you must meet the following criteria:
· 10+ years’ experience in asbestos and occupational hygiene.
· Hold BOHS/RSPH qualifications plus CoC Asbestos (preferred).
· Proven experience managing consultants, surveyors, and senior teams.
· Commercial acumen and compliance expertise.
· Natural leadership with a focus on people, purpose, and progress.
· Experience shaping training, audits, performance reviews, and strategic goals.
· Hunger to make change, and the drive to make it stick.
· Willingness to work with a confidential client in a highly regulated environment.
